David has been playing music for theatre and with bands since 1985. Some highlights include playing upside-down drum kit in the rig of the big top with Circus Oz, playing with Batacuda in front of 80,000 screaming, dancing Colombians at the South American Theatre Festival and performing in Chamber Made's international hit Phobia. He has been musical director on a number of shows including Splatto Family Circus (1987 – 89) and The Wide Sargasso Sea (La Mama 1992) and has played with many bands in the Melbourne live music scene including Bokosa (Ghanaian Hi-Life 1986 – 88), Running Joak (Musical parody 1987 – 90), Dream Cafe Band (Comedy Cabaret 1987 – 1989), Fabio Chinderraba (Zimbabwian Mbira 1999 – 2002), The Supertronics (instrumental surf classics 2003 – 05) and Ajak Kwai (Sudanese Funk 2006 – 09).

 

He is currently playing drum kit and percussion with the ARIA winning Melbourne Ska Orchestra (30 piece ska/rocksteady) and Dr Hernàndez (electro-acoustic Cumbia) as well as filling in with several bands. He can play drum kit, hand percussion, bass guitar, rhythm guitar and ukelele.
